Always wanted to be a chalet cook? This course can take you one step closer, with our signature Chalet Cooking Courses being your pathway to the winter or summer season.

All students will sit down and enjoy the meals that they cook.


This five-day Chalet Cooking Course is ideal for school-leavers wanting to do a ski or summer season or for students heading off to university. The course not only teaches knife skills and cooking skills but life skills too, so it is a great way of giving confidence to any young person who will be living away from home.

Our intensive syllabus aims to give our students a thorough overview of working and cooking in a chalet, incorporating basic to intermediate cookery training, knife skills, menu planning, sourcing ingredients, budgeting, time management, meal service and a general view of life in places such as the Alps. Our courses are practical, hands-on and fun! Students will come away with an armoury of skills and a folder of tried and tested recipes.

Our ski chalet cooking courses run throughout the year. We offer accommodation and all students will cook their own breakfast, lunch and supper.

This course also qualifies for the residential section of the Gold Duke of Edinburgh Award – perfect for those looking to complete their Gold DofE while learning a brilliant life skill.

We also offer a more advanced 10-day Chalet Cooks Course for those who want to take their skills to an advanced level. Advanced training can significantly increase your chances of securing jobs within the industry, particularly for those with limited hospitality experience.

    I had an amazing time carrying out my 5 day Chalet Cooks Course at Abinger cookery school, so much so I’ve decided to go back for a second week! All the staff are so friendly, helpful, supportive and talented in their field which helped me learn so much: how to work with ingredients to maximise flavour, how to judge cooking times, how to accommodate to allergies by making slight changes to a recipe and the importance of the presentation of a meal. Even though I have concluded my course the support from the staff at Abinger has continued, helping me to get a job working in a chalet, something that I am so grateful for! I was upset to be leaving on my last day but massively look forward to going back! Would highly recommend to any individual who wants to stand above the rest when applying for a chalet job, who wants to work in a chalet or anyone who simply wants to massively improve their cooking skills. Thank you to everyone at Abinger cookery school 🙂

    I thoroughly enjoyed my time on the 5 day Chalet cooking course. The course is fantastic, teaching you many different recipes that I will continue to make at home, showing you how to get the best out of the ingredients that you use, how the presentation of a meal is imperative and helping you experiment with the right cooking times and temperatures to give you the best meal possible. The staff are friendly and supportive and the quality of the chefs is top class. To anyone who is looking for a job as a chalet cook or just to improve your skills in the kitchen for the future then I would thoroughly recommend this course.

    I stayed in the accomodation that is provided by the school, the beds are fantastic and the accommodation is everything you need. the small town nearby also has everything you need, a pub down the road if you fancy a drink after a long day in the kitchen, a large green space to relax by and a shop, should you feel the need to buy any extra food.
    Thank you to my group and everyone at Abinger Cookery School for making it a highly enjoyable week!
