We are delighted to have Hari Ghotra teaching Indian cookery classes at The Abinger.
Go on a ‘tasting tour’ of India.
India is such a diverse and colourful country, and this is reflected in the exotic dishes flavoured with a long list of wonderful herbs and spices from all the different regions across the country. Here in the UK, we’re not really aware of how much cooking varies across India. Say the word ‘curry’ and we think that covers all Indian food and that’s that. But there is so much more to experience and enjoy that doesn’t come under this term. Hari is going to take you on a brief ‘tasting tour’ around this enormous, colourful and beautiful country to show you how different people in different areas – influenced by their own cultures, customs, climate and religions – cook.
We hope this won’t just make you hungry, but it’ll make you want to get cooking as well!
All courses are taught by our skilled chefs. Our school is positioned in Abinger Hammer, a delightful and picturesque village in the heart of the Surrey Hills. The school provides each student with a fully equipped kitchen and all necessary ingredients and equipment. We believe in hands-on, practical teaching – so be prepared to roll up your sleeves!

What can I say except that this is a great course and it is run at a sensible pace.
I/we made samosas, a red lentil dahl notwithstanding a fantsstic chicken curry. I/we had a spice master class and I also learnt how to make a lovely over indulgent indian dessert…..
I really enjoyed the course, and the day just disappeared!! I learnt a lot, which has already changed the way i look to cook certain dishes. Many thanks….

Really good day, learnt a few really good points. The most significant of which was the browning onions for 30 mins! that made such a difference to the finished dish.
Will be recommending your school to others…. but please get a better tin opener, they are not expensive.

Wonderful, wonderful and did I say wonderful? I’ve always found the thought of Indian cookery as somewhat daunting but Hari made it all so easy for us. I would strongly recommend this course for getting an understanding into how simple and delicious Indian cooking can be. Thanks to the Abinger Cookery School for serving up another flavour filled course.

This is a fantastic course and I recommend it to anyone who loves exciting and tasty food. The Abinger Staff are so lovely and friendly and Hari is a fantastic Chef and teacher. The course went at a good speed and we covered everything from how to best cook onions (who knew!) to getting the best out of your ingredients in the most efficient way whilst maximizing flavour! The spice master class was a great addition too. Two thumbs up!

I had the most relaxed and fun day learning some great tips on cooking Indian food. Hari talked us through all the great recipes and both my son & I have gone away with some great recipes to build on. I have already made the dessert today for dinner and sautéing my onions for longer..great tip! Dhal on the menu tomorrow..book it!
